How Christ transformed a broken, defeated man

The “Ten Commandments” are a list of laws that God gave to the Israelites while they were traveling in the desert after being freed from slavery in Egypt. God gave the 2 tablets with the commandments etched in them to Moses to deliver to the Jews. The list is given twice in the Bible, first in the Book of Exodus and second in the Book of Deuteronomy. When God gave the Ten Commandments, the knowledge of sin was handed to the Israelites.
There is a lot of misunderstanding and false teachings regarding the Ten Commandments. Many Christians believe that because we are under the New Testament (covenant) and that the Ten Commandments no longer apply to us. This is not true. The Ten Commandments are just as valid today as they were when God gave them to Moses. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said that the law will not disappear (Matthew 5:17 - 18). Then He went on and strengthened them further, showing that God doesn’t just look at the actions of humans, but the human heart (Matthew 5 – 7). So, you see, the Ten Commandments are still in effect, and we are expected to follow them. So, what’s the difference in the Old Covenant and the New Covenant?.
The difference is that our salvation is not dependent on following the Ten Commandments. While God wants us to follow all His commandments, our salvation is secure even when we fail. It is not our actions and behaviors that determine our eternal destiny, it is the work of Jesus Christ, His death on the cross and His resurrection from the grave. It is not our works, it is our faith (Ephesians 2:8-9).
